10 Sustainable Swaps to Try for Earth Month

In honor of Earth Month, we polled the Kinfield team on their favorite sustainable swaps.

Approaching sustainability can be overwhelming, but it can start with something as simple as these swaps below. A few changes here and there go a long way for the planet—thank you for doing your part. A friendly reminder, too, that the most sustainable first option is to always use up what you already have first. But when the time is right for something new, we hope you’ll love these recommendations below.

Happy swapping!

Plastic Floss → Biodegradable Floss

Upgrade your floss and opt to try a biodegradable floss like Lucky Teeth Floss made out of bamboo fiber with activated charcoal and organic tea tree oil. Floss Pot Gold also has a great eco friendly floss made out of corn-fiber and candelilla wax!

Single Use Facial Rounds → Reusable Facial Rounds

Swap your disposable cotton pads for some cocokind eco-friendly rounds made with bamboo and cotton— they’re super soft and machine washable. They can be used for up to 800 washes and then are good compost after!

Disposable Razor → Eco-Friendly & Reusable Razors

Far too many disposable razors end up in landfills each year, try Oui The People THE SINGLE Razor for an eco-friendly metal razor! Another great alternative is to make sure the razor is reusable— check out Planet KIND by Gilette’s razors made from recycled plastic bottles.

Rubber Hair Ties → Biodegradable Hair Ties

Instead of plastic ties, why not try something like Hippy Monkey’s Cotton Hair Ties? They are plastic free, biodegradable, eco-friendly, and zero waste!

Toothpaste Tubes → Toothpaste Bites

ICYMI, yes toothpaste bites are a thing now and we’re here for it— join Bite’s Fresh Mint Club to try their vegan-friendly & plastic-free toothpaste bites.

Liquid Soap → Eco-Friendly Castile Soap

Dr. Bronner’s 18 in 1 Pure Castile Liquid Soaps are good for just about any cleaning task. Face,  body, hair & dishes, laundry, mopping, pets— clean your house and body with their biodegradable and vegetable based products! Dr. Bronner’s is an organic, fair-trade, cruelty-free, and their products naturally decompose!

Paper Towels → Eco-friendly + Reusable Paper Towels

Need to clean a spill? Try some awesome bamboo paper towels from Reel or some zero waste ones from Marley’s Monsters!

Dryer Sheets → Dryer Balls

Coyuchi’s wool dryer balls can be used for up to 1000+ loads and absorb up to 10x their weight in water. Ditch single use dryer sheets for a more eco-friendly alternative!

Single Use Cups → Reusable Cups

America runs on caffeine— whether you’re getting your coffee fix from the cafe down the street or making a to-go cup at home, swap a single use cup for a reusable one! Keep Cup has glass and steel reusable coffee cups that are cute and compact, and we also love the collapsible ones from Stojo.

Plastic Wrap → Reusable Food Wrappers

Ditch single use plastic wrap when saving leftovers. Instead, try waxed wrappers from Public Goods or Bee’s Wrap that are washable, reusable, and compostable.
